SPF: Rituals and Reverence
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Smith Room 202

Rituals, and the reverence they cultivate, are on the decline. As a society, we celebrate few holidays together, and rarely with reverence. Instead, we often praise its opposite. Irreverence seems more honest and less subservient, more appropriate for citizens of a democracy. We hold nothing sacred because we value freedom. Reverence looks like a value for servants or slaves. But have we lost something when we throw out our rituals? Do we need reverence to live a good life? Does society need reverence to function? Do we need to hold something sacred? Join us as we discuss the value of rituals and reverence.
